INDRANI & MIKE
PUNCAK DANI BUNGALOW, GENTING HIGHLANDS
Her endless search…
She exited the plane after immersing herself in US culture. She loved the freedom and acceptance of the country. You could be anyone you wanted to be. It awakened her spirit, her passion and showed her the direction she needed...
She was a documentary filmmaker, pretty good judging by the awards and festivals she had won. The affirmation of her work was comforting, nurturing and reinforcing. She loved her work collaborating and making films, creating stories of meaning. She was a pioneer with her work.
She was back home now. She loved Malaysia but she felt out of place. She was a third-generation Malaysian Indian woman, born here but she was unsure whether her calling was here…
She had a local upbringing related to being Indian-Malaysian and being a girl with the constant expectation that she would follow the family trajectory. Early experiences rocked her self-esteem until she found dance and realized, she needed to express herself with her body, to feel sensual, beautiful and confident as she graced the dance floor. The endorphins flooded her body as she lost herself in her gracefulness and for that time on the dance floor, she felt whole.
Many factors influenced her atypical direction. She was a mind, heart, spirit person. She grew into a blossoming beauty, petite, beautiful, insightful, empathetic, spiritual, curious and visionary in her home country. She was her own person; she followed her own songline...
She endlessly searched for connections that fulfilled her mind, heart, body and spirit and intellectually. She craved this connection.
She needed someone to be there when she needed them, who would empower her, make her stronger and someone who did this because they cared for her, unrequested and in the way she needed.
She didn’t need much, just some special words every now and again, unrequested hugs when she needed them, a soft caress to remind her that she was alive, loving that showed her that they adored her for who she was and who she was becoming. He was someone who would understand her, and he would always be there if not physically but always in her mind encouraging and motivating her to become who she wanted to become.
It seemed impossible to find…her endless search continued...
She finished her coffee and entered the lecture hall…her pep talks to herself seem to be thrown out the window as she apprehensively sat and waited for her presentation...

His endless search…
He exited the plane in KL, moving to another country and another role. He worked his way through customs and then was collected and driven to the University.
He was staying on campus for a couple of weeks able to gaze out on its scenery and students who appeared tiny from the fourth storey vantage point. Finding a house, leasing a car, opening bank accounts, etc was tiring along with the work. He chose a house that was close to the University which was the best decision he made. He cleaned and shifted heavy furniture into the early mornings to create an environment worthy of living in...
He knew why he was there, but he also didn’t know why...
He knew what he had to do... focus intently, establish himself, get runs on the board and persuade everyone he met to achieve the goals given to him in his work. It always distracted him to work the long hours.
He prided himself on always knowing what he was doing, using his experience to empower and achieve the goals set for him at work. He wore armour thickened by numerous battles, which was difficult to damage. He was adaptable, resilient and able to pick himself off the proverbial floor and come back stronger.
He had survived being chased by a giant octopus, being speared by a whip ray, roller coasting upwards endangering his life while diving, managing rescues while diving without a concern. He had also fallen large distances whilst climbing and survived being taunted by an angry elephant. Nothing seemed to be able to fluster him.
They say life is about all the things that you don’t plan. The unexpected things that you didn’t expect. These are the scenes that make life truly worthy of living.
He sat down beside her and nodded politely to the woman sitting on his left. She seemed a little shy, overwhelmed by the context, apprehensive with her forthcoming presentation… He gestured to shake hands and was surprised by the contrast in skin tones. He was the fairest of fairest with his Irish skin.
